Timothy Cuddigan

I first learned about the irrational disability decision-making process of Social Security in the 1980s. My sister was born with Down syndrome, an intellectual disability. She worked in a sheltered workshop and earned enough to have a small Social Security payment. My family was stunned when Social Security cut off her benefits because she medically improved. This of course was not true because individuals living with Down syndrome don’t medically improve. My father battled with social security and got her back on benefits. Later she received a settlement for the money she was owed. This inspired me to enter this area of practice in 1994. Since 1994 I have focused on disability law.
